The Business and Professional Women (BPW) Nigeria, a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering women and girls through economic opportunities and leadership development, is thrilled to share the impact of its Young BPW Lite project. With support from BPW Davos, Switzerland, this initiative has been a game-changer for young girls across Nigeria, specifically in our vibrant chapters in Abuja, Lagos, Edo, Akure, Port Harcourt, Enugu, and Umuahia.
Through the Young BPW Lite project, we have been able to develop leadership skills, enhance literacy and education, foster entrepreneurship, and provide mentorship to countless young girls in these regions. Our grants of N1.188m in 2022 and N1.3m in 2023 have enabled us to make a tangible difference in the lives of these young individuals.
To date, over 3,000 girls have been impacted through the project, acquiring life-impacting skills such as:
- Jewelry and bead making
- Adire and batik making
- Beaded slippers
- Crochets
- Pastries making
- ICT skills
These skills have not only enhanced their employability but also empowered them to become self-reliant and confident individuals.
The project's impact has been profound, with many young girls developing self-confidence, acquiring leadership skills, and improving their educational outcomes. Many have become positive role models in their communities, inspiring others to pursue their dreams.
As we look to the future, BPW Nigeria aims to impact the lives of over 5,000 girls by the end of 2025. To achieve this ambitious goal, we call for partnership and collaboration with organizations and individuals who share our vision. Together, we can expand the coverage of the Young BPW Lite project across Nigeria, empowering more young girls to become change-makers in their communities.
Attached to this post are our 2022 and 2023 project reports, as well as our Young Lite inauguration template, providing a detailed overview of our activities and impact.
